Oraimo 2baba Freepods 2 TWS Earbuds Review: Worth Buying?

The first question I got when I first photographed the delivery of my new Oraimo Freepoods 2 earbuds and posted on WhatsApp was “Is it worth the price tag?” (I did mention the fact that it cost N9,900 ~$25) Another one came in saying to let them know “Let me know if there’s mad bass“. We’ll address all that in this review.

I’ve reviewed quite the number of earbuds this year and having got rid of all of them except one I misplaced a couple of weeks ago, Imagine the excitement when this one arrived after preordering a few days earlier, for starters, I’m impressed that it arrived on launch day, and immediately popped them out for a test drive and while the design is actually amazing.

Having used the device for more than 24 hours, there are a couple of other things to know before buying that I can tell you and we’ll talk about almost everything in this review.

Let’s get started.

Oraimo Freepods 2, What’s In The Box?

When I mentioned great design earlier, it wasn’t just for the earbuds, the box looks good too, anyways, just the basics:

• The Oraimo freepods 2 earbuds (2baba tuned edition).
• A small paper box with the charging cable.
• A user manual.

That’s all, it’s just a box, moving on, let’s discuss a few key things about the Freepods 2.

Design and Build

This is perhaps the best feature of the earbuds. The Oraimo Freepods 2 looks absolutely with the black and gold finish. Both on the charging case and the earbuds themselves.

It has the 2baba gold logos on both earbuds where the controls are and a final gold railing towards the bottom of the earbuds so stylishly, although depending on the size of your ears, it looks like you’re wearing gold earrings, while that vibe is kind of dangerous especially in Lagos with these armed men running around, it sure does up your appearance by a certain percentage.

The earbuds and case itself are lightweight and easy to hold in the hands or carry around in your pocket, unlike the Treblab xFit TWS earbuds bulky design. The glossy case design is a bit of a fingerprint magnet though but who cares, you wouldn’t be holding it in your hands for long anyways.

The earbuds excel most in this case.

Comfort and Fit

Another great criterion for great earbuds the Freepods smashed. One of the best features anyone using whether full in-ear earbuds or half in-ear earbuds like the Freepods 2 would really want is the comfortability/fit aspect, the assurance that it won’t fall off in the middle of say workout which isn’t much of a problem since you can easily pick them up but in the midst of a crowd or rushing, however? A nightmare.

I once dropped one of the half in-ear earbuds I was using while trying to pick up an item in a supermarket and whelps, it took forever to find it that day.

The lightweight design of the Oraimo Freepods 2 makes this hassle go away as it fits right in the ears and unless you’re playing something, you can barely feel its there. I had it on for over 12 hours at a stretch while testing and only played music for less than 4 hours with it.

It was just there. Good to know and it doesn’t hurt the ears at all… For this? Welldone Oraimo.

Connectivity

This is where I believe it all starts to go downhill.

There’s not much to say in this aspect as the device paired well with all the Bluetooth devices in the house though and does have a pretty nice range. For reference purposes, it paired well with my:

• Samsung Galaxy A51
• Google Pixel smartphone
• HP Elitebook Laptop PC.

I did notice some hiccup with my A51 though, it happened consistently on the device, like a slight, 0.5 ms pause and that’s it, it happened consistently but didn’t show up on the Pixel or while I was using it with the PC. It was smooth, Couldn’t determine if this was a problem with the A51 as I’ve used it without any issue on other earbuds.

I also noticed that the earbuds don’t power off when you pop them back into the case. Normally, when you’re using the earbuds and just wish to switch them off, popping them back into the case should do the trick but that isn’t the case with this one.

In fact, I’ve caught it connecting and actually connected to my laptop while they were in the case, that’s a bit odd. Although it isn’t a big deal as you can just easily disconnect them and that’s it but I imagine the connection would be using the battery to some extent.

Other than these minor issues, I don’t think you would have any problem getting the earbuds to work with other devices but bearing in mind, you’ll have to do some manual disconnecting.

Sound Quality

This is perhaps the most anticipated section of this review, I’ll try to keep it as short as possible.

The sounds are okay, a little above average if you will, but as someone who’s tried other earbuds although more expensive, they’re just okay.

Remember someone asked if they have that made bass sound? Well, they don’t, it certainly doesn’t feel like 2baba or Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are dancing and singing to WAP in front of me as I have breakfast while playing the song with the earbuds in-ear.

They’re pretty loud though and connect fast if that’s any consolation and although the bass is there, it’s just not up to scratch and for it’s N9,900 ~$25 price tag, the audio quality isn’t too bad at all. You’ll get that loud music plus okay bass experience but not the whole shebang!

Battery Life

Battery life is okay on the earbuds.

I estimate you’ll see up to 4 hours of music playtime on them, I am not a fan of listening to music on a stretch like that but after a couple of hours, I still had some decent juice left plus the case charges the earbuds once you pop them back in so you’re covered on that.

Should You Buy?

Time for the final verdict, yep, you should buy, I mean, if you care about appearance a lot, they’re excellent for this and they’re pretty loud although no active noise canceling, a dedicated app like you’ll find on flagship earbuds like the Galaxy buds pro, but the design, the design is pretty cool.

The sound quality is okay too for a $25 ~ N9,900 device and here’s something funny, they’re sold out for now. Yep, a lot of people bought them and I could tell for sure as I peeked into the delivery booklet of the guy that brought them to me while he was sorting out my order, it was quite a lot for one person alone, and imagine others and how many deliveries they’d have made in just 3 days.
