However, things seem to be changing within the very near future for the gaming industry, and Microsoft is here to reap the rewards. In this article, we will dissect the games released on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and tell you which system we recommend for players!
The PlayStation 5 Games
The Sony PlayStation 5 is, no doubt, the most powerful console that Sony has created to date. This is a console without little to no hardware limitations, so games can look better, load faster, and run smoother.
Due to this, we’ve received games like Ratchet and Clank: Rifts Apart which use the super-fast SSDs to load multiple environments seamlessly and allow for easy transition between those levels without any loading screens.
This was the power of the PS5, which will be even further utilized by games in the future.The first game that people are looking forward to most for the PlayStation 5 is Horizon Forbidden West.
Developed by Guerilla Games, Horizon Forbidden West will feature a seamlessly integrated, vast open-world location that allows players full freedom of exploration, day and night cycles, and living breathing characters and machines existing in it.
This will be the kind of game that will utilize the power of the PlayStation 5 to the maximum, with faster loading screens, 60 frames per second smoothness, and perhaps even ray-traced reflections!
The next big thing for the PS5 is God of War Ragnarok, Sony Santa Monica’s crowned jewel. Ragnarok was built up by God of War 2018, a complete readjustment of how the God of War games played, looked and felt. The deeply mature, depressing, and yet hopeful story was given a new coat of paint, a new design and a new cast of characters.
Ragnarok’s world is the perfect way to utilize the PS5’s power. Seamless transition between the many explorable realms within the game, a single shot, uncut cinematic design, and no limits to what Sony Santa Monica can do with the visuals of this game.
There is complete freedom for the developers, and there is bound to be an experience worthy of gamers’ time.
The Xbox Series X Games
Now while the PlayStation 5’s power resides in running games designed around utilizing its full potential, Microsoft’s outlook is completely different from the Xbox Series X.
This time around, Microsoft wants to give you so much content that by the end of the year you’ll be confused about what to play. The Xbox Game Pass has been a chronicle in the gaming industry, a subscription service that lets you play not just indie games, but also some triple AAA titles on day one of launch.
Now you might be wondering what the point of having games on day one will be if the games aren’t as good as Sony’s titles. However, Microsoft’s purchasing of Zenimax and a couple of dozen other studios over the years have turned them into a much stronger competitor than they have ever been.
First off, we have the entirety of Bethesda’s games on Game Pass. Doom, Wolfenstein, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, The Evil Within, Rage, Prey and more! There’s also a bunch more studios they have working under their belt, Ninja Theory is currently working on Hellblade 2, as the original Hellblade game was one of the most original games of all time.
While Psychonauts 2 was one of the best games of 2024, introducing a platforming gameplay loop unlike anything else, combined with a heartfelt story of self-growth! Halo Infinite came back and brought the franchise back to its former glory, something that millions of fans were waiting for a solid decade and a half.
Not to mention, 2024 is an amazing year. We have not just games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl coming out, which will ensure that GSC Game World can truly realize its vision of the power of the Xbox Series X.
There are also games, such as the Fable Remake being developed by PlayGround Games, the new game by Obsidian Entertainment called Avowed, Arcane Studios’ new co-op action-adventure game known as Redfall, and of course; Bethesda Entertainment’s first new IP in over 25 years; Starfield.
These are just the games announced to be released in 2024, with more to come as we get deeper into the year.Â
Our Final Verdict: What We Recommend
It hasn’t really been an easy choice when it comes to picking which console would be best, in all honesty, the best console would be. Each console has its very own strengths, but in all honesty, the PlayStation 5 possesses a weakness that the Xbox Series X does not.
The Xbox Series X is seeing major releases almost every month in 2024, with more games being added to Xbox Game Pass’ ever-growing library. This is where the problem lies for Sony.
Aside from Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok being the only two first-party studio games, there isn’t another confirmed truly Sony title coming to the PS5. Not to mention, a lot of their older games are released on PC as well.
There are some timed exclusive launches, such as Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, but aside from that, there is a severe lack of content on the PlayStation 5. Still, if you’re interested in quality over quantity when it comes to single-player stories, The PlayStation 5 is a great choice.
However, the clear winner out of the two choices currently is quite easily; The Xbox Series X.
The Xbox Series X is what we would recommend, it’s due to multiple factors but the main reasoning is just how good the games released on the console are, and the quantity of games is also amazing.
God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West is no doubt going to be great games, but they cannot compete with the excitingly large line-up of games that are coming out on the Xbox Series X!
So, for that reason, we recommend The Xbox Series X as the superior console with better titles to play, at least in 2024.
