With the new of not just any Samsung phone but every mid-range phone comes this all too familiar question among others, “Is the smartphone waterproof?” The new Galaxy A52 and A72 recently released by Samsung is no exception from this conversation as smartphone makers are starting to offer more especially in their budget lineups.

We covered this exact topic on last year’s Galaxy A51 and even on the wildly successful Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, the Google Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 also got theirs.

We’re not here to discuss them however so let’s get to the meat of this post.

[NEW] Are The Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, And S22 Ultra Waterproof?

Want to Know The IP Status of The Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72?

We’re happy to discuss that. It’s essential to know if a phone you’re thinking of buying is waterproof anyway especially if you frequent the pool a lot or want to use your smartphone while in the hot tub or generally work near areas with a consistent body of water.

Before we dissect the facts on the water-resistant status of these two phones, let’s rush through some quick specs of both devices.

Samsung Galaxy A52 Quick Specs

The Samsung Galaxy A52 is expected to release globally around the 26th of March with a Super AMOLED, 120Hz screen, stuff you normally see on the $1000 flagship phones. Still on the screen, its a 6.5 inches 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio design with corning gorilla glass 5.

The device also comes with Android 11, One UI 3.1 out of the box, and has the Qualcomm SM7225 Snapdragon 750G 5G, yep, it’s 5G Capable with the base RAM version starting at 6GB and up to 8GB RAM, up to 256GB ROM. Much better than last year’s A51 starting at 4GB of RAM.

Camera-wise there’s going to be a quad-camera setup, but with a different design from last year, here are the details: 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.7X”, 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 12 MP, f/2.2, 123Ëš (ultrawide), 1.12µm, 5 MP, f/2.4, (macro) and a 5 MP, f/2.4, (depth). The selfie camera is pegged at 32MP and both cameras are capable of recording 4K Videos.

You get a Li-Po 4500 mAh, USB-Type C, and fast charging up to 25W and the device is expected to cost around $450.

Samsung Galaxy A72 Quick Specs

YouTube video

The Samsung Galaxy A72 is expected to release globally around the 26th of March with a Super AMOLED, 90Hz screen, identical to the smaller A52 but 90Hz, you’ll get the 120HZ refresh rate on the 5G version.

The specs are pretty similar but with this one spotting a Li-Ion 5000 mAh, non-removable battery, and slightly larger screen. This device is expected to retail for $499.

Is The Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72 Waterproof?

Surprisingly? Yes. Both phones come with an IP67 dust/water resistant rating and can withstand being dunked into the water for slightly less than two minutes. Not a lot or the kind of protection you’ll get from an IP68 rating like the one on the OnePlus 8 but it’s a step in the right direction as these midrange devices usually don’t have an IP rating, at least Samsung’s budget phones.

In conclusion?

These phones pack quite the punch. Note that there are ordinary versions of the device and 5G versions for users living in areas with 5G antennas.

The 5G versions are also a little bit pricier than the ordinary versions and have quite a bumped up spec-sheet than the other so please take note of that when making a buying decision.
